During senior year, Skylar Seals of Maize South has her eyes on the girls’ state
golf tournament. As a team, it has been several years since Maize South has been to
the state tournament, and Seals and her teammates would like to accomplish the
goal of returning to state this year. Individually, Seals would like to place in the top
10 this year at state.
A favorite course for Seals is Carey Park in Hutchinson. “I’m looking forward to
playing at Carey Park in Hutch since I better myself every time I play there.” Seals
is also looking forward to competing against Maize. Seals shared how most of the
girls on the two golf teams have grown up together and have a friendly
competition. “It’s just really awesome to play with them and compete over the
years.”
Over the summer Seals played golf with her dad a lot. “He really pushes me to be
my best.” Seals shared a highlight of her summer was attending the Wichita Open
with her dad. “It was a real eye-opening experience with seeing professionals
right before my eyes.”
During last year’s season, Seals earned 2nd Team All-League and placed 33rd at state.
Seals shared how the start of her junior season was rocky, but was proud to make a
comeback at the end of the season and finish the season out strong.
In addition to golf, Seals plays basketball and participates in track and field. She is
also in Spanish club, FCA, and Pep club. Seals would like to continue her golf
career in college, but is currently undecided where; however, Seals is interested in
studying criminal justice wherever she ends up.
