After recovering from ACL surgery and spending last season behind a senior-heavy varsity group, Garden Plain’s Hailey Brack enters this season ready for her first opportunity to compete as a full-time member of the Garden Plain varsity team.
“My goal is to end with no regrets,” Brack said. “This is my last season and I want to leave it all on the court and give my full effort every game for my team.”
Brack and the Owls put in plenty of work during the offseason to prepare for the season. Garden Plain’s volleyball players were up early for weightlifting Monday through Thursday throughout the summer while also participating in volleyball workouts on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The team also held a three-day volleyball camp before the start of the season, giving the Owls an opportunity to sharpen their skills and build chemistry.
One area Brack has focused on improving is her serve receive, an important part of helping the Owls maintain control and build their offense.
“One way my team and I are working on serve receive is just a lot of reps to help build muscle memory and refine our technique,” Brack said.
While Brack has individual goals for her final season, she also has high expectations for Garden Plain as a team. She wants the Owls to establish themselves through effort and toughness every time they take the court.
“A goal I have for my team this season is to outwork and hustle every team we play,” Brack said. “Hopefully doing that will create trust between each other and set us up well for an amazing season.”
One of the highlights of the season for Brack will be Gold Rush, a volleyball event Garden Plain started last year as a way to bring the community together. The event features prizes and auctions for fans throughout the night and creates an energetic atmosphere around the Owls’ volleyball program.
Garden Plain hopes to draw 700 people to this year’s volleyball game.
“I am most excited for Gold Rush,” Brack said. “It is such a fun and loud atmosphere to play in and I can’t wait!”
