Hutchinson Trinity’s Malachiey Alvarez – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by PrairieStar Health Center

Malachiey Alvarez, a senior at Hutchinson Trinity High School, is wrapping up his high school career on a high note, literally and figuratively. A standout in distance events, Alvarez competes in the 4×800 relay, 800m, and 1600m. His goals for this season are to make it back to the state meet and set new personal records in each of his individual races.

“I’m really looking forward to league and regionals,” Alvarez shared with Vype Magazine. “But more than anything, I’m excited to make new memories with my teammates.” That team spirit is part of what has driven his success. During the offseason, Alvarez trained with the cross country squad over the summer, staying consistent and seeing real growth in his performance.

Last year’s track season brought major milestones. Alvarez broke the 5-minute barrier in the 1600, a moment he is especially proud of. Alvarez helped his 4×800 relay team punch a ticket to the state championships as well. “Those were moments where I felt all the hard work paid off,” he said.

His drive isn’t limited to the track. Alvarez also competes in cross country in the fall and basketball during the winter, and he brings the same rhythm and focus to the drumline for his school.

After graduation, Alvarez plans to attend Hutchinson Community College to complete his general education before transferring to Wichita State University to pursue a career in physical therapy. Whether he’s running laps or tapping drumbeats, Malachiey Alvarez is always moving forward, with purpose, passion, and a clear vision for the future.
