Andover High Selects Trey O’Neil To be Recommended as Head Boys’ Basketball Coach

Pending approval by the USD 385 B.O.E., Trey O’Neil will be the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach at Andover High
School. Coach O’Neil will replace Martin Shetlar, who resigned at the end of the 2025 basketball season after 8
years as the Head Boys Basketball Coach of Andover High. Shetlar led Andover High to a State Title in 2023 with
four state tournaments, including three straight state appearances.


Coach O’Neil was the head coach at Hugoton High School from 2021 through 2025 while teaching in the
PE/Weights department. Prior to coaching at Hugoton High School, Coach O’Neil was an assistant basketball
coach at Hays High School for two years. Coach O’Neil has led Hugoton High School to three state tournaments,
winning the 4A state title in 2023 for the first time in school history and finishing runner-up in 2024. He was the
2023 All-Classes Coach of the Year and a Sports In Kansas Coach of the Year finalist in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

O’Neil is a graduate of Scott City High School and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and
Human Performance from Fort Hays State University, where he played basketball for four years. Andover High
welcomes Coach O’Neil and his wife, Dusty, to the Trojan family.
