The McPherson Family YMCA and the Greater Wichita YMCA Boards of Directors have agreed to bring the two associations together under the same umbrella. With this collaboration, the Y will be able to expand its mission impact and serve more youth and adults in the McPherson community.
“We’re so appreciative of the welcome we have already received over the past several weeks from Y members and businesses in McPherson who are looking forward to working side-by-side for the greater good of the area,” said Todd Tangeman, Chair of the Greater Wichita YMCA Metropolitan Board of Directors. “What’s even more exciting is how this move will support all of South Central Kansas. The McPherson YMCA joins Greater Wichita YMCA branches in Wichita and outlying areas that include Newton, Hutchinson, El Dorado and Andover to give people of all ages the opportunity to connect and elevate health and wellness for the entire region.”
The Y’s mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that promote healthy lifestyles, strong families, and positive youth development to build healthy spirit, mind and body for all, regardless of ability to pay. Bringing the McPherson YMCA into the Greater Wichita YMCA family will create opportunities to increase the Y’s power to nurture the potential of kids, promote healthy living and foster a sense of social responsibility through expanded mission-focused programming and membership options.
“We’re very excited to build on our joint histories to expand our mission and move forward in new and innovative ways,” said Alan Porter, Chair of the McPherson YMCA Board of Directors. “We expect all of the great work happening every day at the McPherson YMCA to grow as we reach out to even more children, teens and adults.”
