Wichita Southeast senior James Horn is one of the best offensive lineman in the state, despite playing for only two, going on three years in high school.
The offensive guard is entering just his second season at the position, yet he’s already earned all-league honorable mention honors and has become a notable leader up front for the Golden Buffaloes.
“I would say my biggest strengths are making the people around me better and pushing my teammates,” Horn said.
Horn played three years of little league football before stepping away, but his love for the game reignited during high school, and now he’s fully committed to maximizing every snap.
“My grind to the game of football is what makes me one of the best players in the state,” he said. “I’ll do team workouts, then go to the gym, then hit the football field after. I’m not afraid to go against the best people at their positions.”
Though undersized for the offensive line, Horn stands out with his intensity and toughness.
“I work harder than everybody else,” Horn said. “I’m more violent on pass blocks and run blocking.”
Horn’s personal goals are clear — allow zero sacks and help his running back eclipse 1,000 yards — but he’s focused on team success above all.
“We want to host a playoff game, have a winning record, and make it at least to the third round,” Horn said. “With the group of guys we have now, I feel like we can achieve all of this.”
