2025 VYPE Softball Players to Watch

Comments are directly from their coaches who filled out a Vype questionnaire.

If you want to nominate an athlete to be added to the list please email [email protected].

Gentry Bergsten – Douglass

Gentry is a great athlete. She is a multi-sport high school athlete and plays for the Classics Organization out of Kansas City. Gentry has incredibly smooth hands at short stop and is a great power hitter! She was an ALL League infielder her Freshman and Sophomore year, and if things continue she will be All League again this year.

Addie Brewer – Douglass

Addie comes to us this year with a great glove and strong arm on the corners. She will also be our #2 pitcher and pitching game 2 of our double headers. Her ability to be able to hit the ball to the green or get a bunt down to move runners. She works hard all year round with her club team.

Braylie Knisley – Douglass

Braylie is our junior pitcher. This year she will be our #1 pitcher. Braylie is also a beast at the plate, she led our team last year with home runs. She works hard all year on her

pitching, hitting, and practicing with her club team!

Quinn Campbell – Cimarron

Quinn is a junior. She has been a starting pitcher for us since her freshman year, and pitched every game for us last year. We lost the regional championship game in extra innings last year and look to compete for the championship this year. I expect Quinn to be the top pitcher in the GWAC this year and will make a run for conference MVP.

Maddy Ferguson – South Sumner

As a freshman last season, Maddy racked up 137 strikeouts (#3 for KS 2A-1A, #12 for the State of Kansas; MaxPreps Stats) and pitched a no hitter (#1 for KS 2A-1A, #3 State of Kansas; MaxPreps Stats).  Along with top pitching stats, Maddy earned Honorable Mention for the South-Central Border League.  We look forward to seeing what Maddy accomplishes her sophomore season.

Emma Rohrbaugh – South Sumner

Emma, returning starting junior, is always the first one ready for practice, assists with practice set up without being asked, and always the last to leave ensuring that all equipment is put away.  Emma learned a new position last season knowing that her position was needed for the team’s success.  She was also our team leader in sacrifice bunts doing what she needed to do to advance her team.  I wish that I had 10 more Emma’s on our team.

Cora Paviovich – McPherson

Cora is a top notch individual in the classroom, on the field and in the community. She was the homecoming queen last fall. Cora is a player with great Character and is a positive role model for her teammates. She will be a great leader for McPherson.

Madalynn Harold – Chapman Irish

Maddie has been a standout pitcher for Chapman for the past three years, and we expect her to continue to impress going into her senior year. Last year Harold went 11-2, with one of those losses coming against Wamego, the back-to-back state champs in 4A, and the other being a narrow 4-3 loss to Scott City in the regional championship game. In 2024 she recorded 176 strikeouts and maintained a 1.76 ERA, holding her opponents to just a .151 batting average. She started her junior year with a perfect game, striking out 13 of the 15 batters she faced in 5 innings, and added another three no-hitters to her record throughout the year. Maddie also hit .361 with three home runs, driving in 21 runs for the Irish. We look forward to great things from her in the 2025 season!

Jai Rogers – Chapman Irish

Jai was a standout freshman for the Irish in the 2024 season. Starting at shortstop as a freshman with a .927 fielding percentage is no easy feat, but it’s with a bat in her hand that Jai really shines. At the plate, Rogers averaged .458 on the season with a slugging percentage of .711, crossing the plate 24 times herself and managing to drive in 13 runs as the leadoff hitter for Chapman. We are very excited to see what Jai can do over the next three years, and look forward to big things from her sophomore season in 2025!

Taylor Gustafson – Chapman Irish

Taylor is at every event we have, whether it’s a weekend practice, running a concession stand in the dead of winter, or making sure that senior baskets are assembled to honor our outgoing upperclassmen. She exemplifies what it means to be a teammate and can always be found going the extra mile to improve herself and everyone around her. You would be hard-pressed to find someone who cares more about a team and truly wants the best for everyone around her. Taylor is a fantastic young woman, and we look forward to great things from her after she leaves CHS.

Zoey Peterson – Chapman Irish

Zoey is someone who puts it all on the line for her teammates no matter the situation. Over the past two years, she has taken on many roles for us—pitching for JV, base running for varsity, playing in the outfield, and covering third base—the list goes on. Regardless of the role, Zoey puts forth 100% effort and uses her innate passion for the sport to support her team. She is determined, hardworking, and an all-around joy to be around. Our team would not be the same without her and her humble ability to lead by doing.

Avery Johnson – Frontenac

Avery is a two-time state champion as a pitcher. She was our starting pitcher as a freshman in 2022 when we won our title.  She was our starting pitcher last season when we won our title. Her ERA last year was 0.976 at the end of the season. She has recorded 463 strikeouts in her career with 234 coming last season.  Her opponent’s batting average last season was .135.  She is a stud in the circle and throws hard, and locates her spin pitches extremely well.  She shut out Silver Lake and Wichita Trinity last season in the State Tournament. Offensively she hit .462 for us last season with .673 slugging percentage.  She recorded 48 hits and 36 RBI’s. We play in a very competitive league, and pack our schedule with other competitive teams. We play Bentonville High School (Class 7A Arkansas State Champ), Diamond Missouri (Class 2 State Champ), Louisburg, Fort Scott, etc.  Avery handled their line ups with no problem. She is an incredibly hard worker  and never makes excuses.

Alana Sullivan – Frontenac

Alana is a triplet. Both her sisters play for our team.  She plays RF for our team, but will move to CF for us this season.  She is one of the hardest workers I have ever coached.  She is never satisfied, and always wants more for herself and her team.  She is her teammates biggest cheerleader, and will do anything she can to make her team successful.  She is a quiet leader, and leads more by actions rather than words.  She is respected by all of her teammates, and her coaches.  Alana is a great kid with a passion for this game, and is always respectful to umpires and the game.

Sariah Potter – Goddard

Sariah is a natural born athlete. She is a junior this year and has earned a starting spot every year since her freshman year. As a third baseman, she always knows where the play is at and where she should be next. At the plate, she hits hard and can lay down a bunt. She is also a talented catcher although we haven’t used her there often.

Avery Stindt – Republic County

Avery Stindt is a great all around person and student athlete. She excels at everything she does. It’s not because it comes easy. But because she works extra hard and applies all her focus as needed in her studies, on the court or on the field. Avery is a standout three-sport athlete in volleyball, basketball and softball. An All League basketball player as well as an All League and All State softball player two years running. While excelling on the field she is holding a high GPA in her studies. Not only this but participating in the high school band (one of the best in the state). Avery is one of the most aggressive but smart baserunners I have had the honor to coach. (Quick story.. one game we were down 1 run with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th. Avery was our baserunner at 3rd. I told her do whatever you can to score. Two pitches later she stole home on a throw down to 3rd. We went into extra innings to win that game.) She has a cannon of an arm whether she is playing the catcher or shortstop positions. She has a very quick pop time and has picked off a number of runners over the last couple years. Other team runners have learned to be cautious while she is behind the plate. Avery has led the team in most offensive statistics since she was a freshman. Her biggest growth during high school softball is being a more vocal leader as well as game situational knowledge. Avery has become a great leader on the field for her teammates. She is a fun player and such a joy to be around on the field. The team will definitely miss her after this season. Avery is destined to go on to great things.

Drew Skocny – Republic County

Drew will be a sophomore this season. She has been around softball all her life. Watching her two older sisters play when she was younger. Drew picked up a bat at three years old and has never stopped. Watching her sisters play, she gained a lot of game play knowledge before even hitting the field herself. At seven years old she started playing softball competitively. I was just Dad for her younger years. Last year as the high school coach I started coaching her on a team for the first time. She is a very determined player, a baller. A wealth of knowledge and ability. She was second in most offensive team stats as a freshmen, right behind our All State player Avery Stindt. I expect her to continue to play well and grow even more in the game. If she keeps herself in check and in control then skies the limit for her.

Grae Siemsen – Republic County

I’ve been able to watch Grae grow up through city rec softball locally. Then I watched her play with my youngest daughter on their competitive travel team last summer. She communicates very well with her coaches and teammates. She will always ask her coaches and team leaders questions.  She wants to improve. Has a desire to be a better player and teammate every day. She is very speedy and struggled a little during her freshmen season with her bat. We as coaches talked with her about becoming a slap hitter. She eventually accepted the challenge and improved her batting avg from .183 first half of season to .417 in the second half. We were able to help her baserunning ability and confidence by reading defenses better and timing on her leadoffs. Her outfield glove and foot work much improved.  Because she worked hard and asked questions to improve the little things we  expect much bigger things from Grae this season.

Frankie Snapp – Republic County

Frankie puts in extra work to make the team better. She doesn’t do it to be better herself but to improve the team. She silently leads whether she knows it or not. Others see her putting extra they stay with her to get extra also. Frankie will help teammates get through a rough patch and give “bigger sister” advice. She may not always know exactly what to say for every situation. But she will not let anyone get down if she can help it. She has been my third baseman for three years. She continues to do the right things for the position and is a very positive player. She does not allow mistakes to bother her. She stays positive and focused and moves on to the next play. She is pretty comical. She says she does it and it is a way to keep her focused and not get down. This also helps those around her.

Harlee Nelson – Sylvan-Lucas Unified

Harlee has been a varsity pitcher for the Mustangs for three years now.  She was in a car accident her freshman year, so she lost part of the season due to her injury.  However, last year, she was our only pitcher, so she had to pitch double headers throughout the season, ending with 130 strikeouts.  She is also our lead-off batter because of her ability to read pitches and earn a base running position.  She scored 31 runs last year and had 52 stolen bases.  She is consistent in hitting singles to get on base and then is a quick and aggressive base runner. .386 avg; 31 runs; 32 hits.

Anna Feldkamp – Sylvan-Lucas Unified

Anna is the kid who comes to practice every day and just gives it her all.  She loves softball and puts all her effort into being the best catcher possible.  She is very coachable, and despite the situation, she always has a smile on her face and brings a positive vibe to the team.  She is the first to grab the equipment to set it up and is always there to clean up.  She is a positive role model for our younger players and just makes coaching enjoyable because of her energy. .221 avg; 17 runs; 17 hits; 1 HR; 24 SB.

Montana Griffiths – Sylvan-Lucas Unified

Montana is the hardest working student athlete.  She works part-time as a server at the local restaurant, along with babysitting, and helping others in various capacities.  If I ever need anything done or need help, I can always count on Montana to do it.  She never leaves practice without making sure that all the equipment is stored correctly and is always on the bus after games to make sure that I have helped unload the equipment.  I never have to ask her–she knows to do the right thing.  She is a sweet kid who puts others’ needs before her own.  And, she is one heck of a third baseman.  She has no fear of failure; she steps to the plate and gives it all she’s got. .236 Avg; 9 runs; 17 hits; 5 RBI’s; 19 SB.

Ellie Crawford – Hoisington

We will rely a lot on Ellie.  She’s our only returning varsity pitcher as she went 9-2 last year with a school record 1.04 ERA.  She pitched 74 innings, had 90 strikeouts with only 18 walks.  She played mainly shortstop when she wasn’t pitching and hit .417, with an on base percentage of .464 and OPS of 1.190.  She had 35 hits, 7 doubles, 2 triples and a CKL league leading 5 home runs.  Ellie is a great kid, hard worker and very easy to coach. Brynn Tarlton Brynn started about half the time last year, filling in half of the catching duties.  She also filled in at other spots when we had some injuries.  Brynn will be called upon this year to fill some big time roles.  With all the lost starters from last year, she will be asked to still catch some, but also looking forward to her filling the #2 pitching role behind Ellie.  She will also get worked in around the infield as we try to figure out all of our new starters for the upcoming season.  Brynn’s bat was up and down last year, but I know what type of hitter she can be, and look for that to happen this coming season.

Claire Crutcher – Hoisington

Claire is one of those girls that works hard, works at her craft and gets the job done.  She doesn’t seek out pats on the back, she does what it takes to succeed, gets the job done and moves on to the next task at hand.  It doesn’t come easy for her all the time, but she will not let that deter her from becoming the player she wants to be.  She works hard at her hitting in practice, always listening to ways to adjust her swing to become a better hitter.  The results are showing and looking forward to all her hard work this coming season.  She will be our main catcher this year, so we ask a lot from her, and she will nod, smile and give you the thumbs up that she is fine and ready for the next inning or game. She is a coach’s dream – you ask her to do something, and she does it, no questions asked.  Really looking forward to her progress in her senior season.

Emery Benson Hladik – Andale/ Garden Plain

Emery is the cornerstone of our team behind the plate, setting the tone as our leadoff hitter. She excels at getting us off to a strong start in every game. A vocal leader, she puts in the effort behind the plate to ensure our pitchers perform at their best. Last season, she impressed with a .500 batting average, 9 home runs and just three strikeouts. Emery is a true workhorse, always willing to give her all for the team. She has aspirations of becoming a doctor after high school, and her intelligence shines both in the classroom and on the field. She’s constantly analyzing the opposing pitcher, always strategizing ways to improve her performance with each at-bat. Every time she steps up to the plate, I have full confidence that she’ll find a way to get on base. I’m excited to see the impact she’ll make in her senior year. I look forward to seeing her progress at Hutch Community College where she plans to play next season after high school.

Elsie Johnson – Andale/ Garden Plain

Elsie is the kind of teammate everyone wishes they had. While she’s quiet, she’s always there to lift others up, offering high-fives and encouragement while giving her all on the field. Even on tough days, you’d never know—she keeps her composure and stays focused. Elsie is the player who’ll step into any position and do whatever the coach asks, simply because she loves the game. Though she’s an introvert and doesn’t seek the spotlight, she consistently steps up when the team needs her to make a play. Elsie consistently stays after practice for extra reps and makes sure the equipment is put away without needing to be asked. She’s the ideal type of athlete to have on your team—raised to show respect, put in the hard work, and elevate the play of those around her to meet the standards coaches expect.

Jewell Carleton – Bluestem

Jewell Carleton is a senior utility player for the Lions who just signed to play at the collegiate level for Seward County at the beginning of December. Jewell has a great arm, great work ethic, and a large bat that comes up when you need it most. This is definitely a player that everyone should keep an eye out for this season.

Dani Orpen – Bluestem

Dani is a stellar athlete that is looking to make a large impact this spring. She is a good contact hitter and is vital in the heart of our line up. I am excited to see what she does for us this season.

Evyn Neal – Bluestem

Evyn is a great teammate who shows up to practice and just works. She is extremely coachable and will take any coaching that is given to her. She is a force in the outfield with the ability to read the ball right as soon as it is hit, and is willing to put in the extra effort to dive and slide for balls in order to get outs when they are needed. She’s the kid who wants the ball in a high pressure situation because she knows she is able to do what she needs to in order to get an out.

Kaci Young – Halstead

Kaci is a dominant pitcher, and when she is not pitching, she is one of the top short stops because of her athleticism. Last year, she finished with a 13-3 record pitching, 1.275 ERA, 176 SO, .266 BA, 21 H, 31 R, and 18 SB. She was unanimous 1st team All League for the CKL, and 3rd Team All State.

Addison Thompson – Halstead

Addison is a threat both offensively and defensively for teams. Defensively, she is either shutting down batters with her pitching, or robbing them of hits when she is in the outfield. Offensively, she puts hard balls in play, and is aggressive on the bases. Her stats from last year: .392 BA, 23 RBI, 20 R, 3-0, 2.435 ERA.

Thea Boese – Halstead

Thea is a workhorse behind the plate for us. She works well with our pitchers to make them look their best, and keeps the ball in front of her. Offensively, she does her role, sometimes that is moving runners over, other times that is making sure she finds a way to get on base to score. Last year’s stats: .321 BA, 3 HR, 25 RBI, 25 R.

Brooke Koenigsman – Thomas More Prep Marian

Brooke has been a four-year starter on the team.  She has recently signed to continue her playing career at Iowa Western Community College. She has been instrumental in getting the program back to the state tournament and has big goals for herself and the team this season. Throughout her time at TMP-M, she has achieved the following success.

2023 KCA All State 1st Team Infield

2024 KCA All State 1st Team Infield

2023 SIK 1st Team

2024 SIK 1st Team

Holds following records: Career Triples, Individual hits in a single season, Individual singles in a single season, Individual triples in a single season (tied), Minimum strikeouts in a single season (tied with 1).

Brynn Rebel & Bria Windholz – Thomas More Prep Marian

Both sophomore pitchers have been playing together since they were around 8 years old.  They have always worked together as a pitching combo with each having separate strengths on the mound.  Last year as freshman Brynn (10-5) and Bria (11-4) combined for a 3.140 ERA and 193 K’s in 171 innings.  Brynn brings speed on the bases with 41Runs scored and 11 doubles and 3 triples and 24 singles.  Bria was a power hitter with a batting average of .402 and 8 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR and 23 singles. Both were 2024 KCA All State (Brynn 2nd team and Bria 1st team) and both were 2024 SIK All State (Brynn 2nd team, Bria HM).

Hannah Rose – Thomas More Prep Marian

Hannah came in as a freshman and brings the mental side of an upperclassmen. Her knowledge of the game allows for her to be versatile in the field.  She played in every varsity game last year as an outfielder, third base and even caught.  She is smart on the bases and understands game situations at a high level.  Hard worker and gives me everything she has all the time.

Avalon Theis – Medicine Lodge

Avalon is 3B/P, senior, (our only returning senior). Led the team in hits, RBIs, stolen bases and hitting average last year.

Adalynn Cope – Medicine Lodge

Freshman pitcher, will be one of our top pitchers this season. Has been the number 1 pitcher for the Lady Shox team over the last four years and works hard in the offseason.

Claire Cunningham – Medicine Lodge

Our returning catcher, easy choice for hardest worker, caught all but two innings last season.

Emmy Gerdes – Medicine Lodge

Emmy will be a sophomore and served as our shortstop last season. She is a true-team player.

Meredith Denton – Wabaunsee

Meredith is an amazing person! She is one of the best student athletes in Wabaunsee! She has been All State and has had to play multiple positions! She is a very supportive person and player! She has chosen to play tennis at the next level, and also had multiple opportunities for softball as well! I anticipate a huge year for her this year! Mere has to be in the top shelf softball list at WHS!

Izzy Wright – Wabaunsee

Izzy will flatly do anything with a smile! She can hit any pitcher in the league! She never lets a bad play or strike out bring her down! She has tremendous bat speed and led the team in doubles! She is a silent team leader! This is her Senior campaign and she is going to have to pitch for us!She has not complained once!

Kory Anschutz – Skyline

She is our leading pitcher and short stop. Is a great leader on the field helping our younger, less experienced players.  Leads us in hits, slugging percentage, and steals.

Sarah Reyes – Skyline

Sarah is another one of our pitchers, is our third baseman, and gets the job of shortstop when Kory is pitching. She is willing to do whatever job is needed out of her. She has come a long way as a slap hitter and is now our lead off batter.

Peyton Walker – Skyline

She just started playing softball two years ago and has become an asset to our team. Peyton is willing to come in and put in the extra work and truly wants to do the best she can to help the team.

Lilly Clements, Alexis Butler & Emmy Cooper – Haysville-Campus

3B Lilly Clements, SS Alexis Butler, 2B Emmy Cooper – all three are sophomores, they should have very productive offense numbers.

Paityn Fritz – Salina South

Paityn Fritz is one of our returning starting pitchers. She has verbally committed to the University of Las Vegas as Junior for her pitching and her hitting. Last year on the mound, she ended the season with 108 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.1. At the plate, she had an average of .380 with 11 doubles and 10 home runs. She is also a great kid off the field while working with younger pitchers in the community and umpiring the youth tournaments that come through.

Hannah Gardner – Salina South

Hannah is the player that you want younger girls looking up to. She may not be the loudest leader on the field, but is definitely the hardest worker. She is constantly asking me to make her better by hitting the ball harder or pitching the ball tougher. She is always wanting the extra reps and any extra coaching that she can get. She is naturally strong and has the ability to conquer everything she sets out to do.

Olivia Wright – Beloit

Senior Olivia Wright, a four-year starter, has been an asset to the Beloit Softball team all four years. Olivia is an asset on defense as our starting pitcher and playing outfield when not pitching. She also helps lead the team offensively and had a batting average of .558 last season. Olivia’s work ethic is unmatched, she puts in time outside of practice and never complains. Olivia has committed to Sterling College to play softball. We are looking forward to a great season.

Braedee Weatherman – Minneapolis

Braedee has pitched pretty much every inning for the program for the last two seasons. She has also led the team in most offensive categories including batting percentage.

Miley McClure – Minneapolis

Miley was our starting shortstop all season. Defensively she was rock solid. She can hit for power, but we are hoping to see her average improve in her sophomore season.

Avery Brawner – Haven

Avery will be a junior this spring, she is a two-time 2nd Team All-State selection with a career record of 38-5. She has posted a 1.82 earned run average over 230 innings while allowing 161 hits and striking out 238 batters. She defeated state third place finisher Wichita Trinity twice last season, including an 11 inning game where she went the distance, striking out 12 batters in the complete game win. For her career, hitters are batting .186 against Avery.

Aubree Nikkel – Haven

Aubree is a sophomore infielder who we expect good things from in 2025. She should find a spot somewhere on the infield and be a productive hitter in the bottom of the lineup, hopefully setting her up for a bigger role in 2026 and beyond.

Sophie Faidley – Haven

Sophie is our rock behind the plate. She provides incredible guidance to our pitching staff and is such a pro behind the plate. Offensively she gives our lineup a steady bat with some reliable extra-base power. We would not be as successful as we are without Sophie.

Karlee Cooprider – Haven

Quiet kid who goes about her business and does things the right way. A very talented first baseman, great at picking tough throws, Karlee is our most gifted first baseman with the glove over the past 15 years.

Jessilyn Parsons – Central of Burden

Very good kid. Plays volleyball for the school and club, wrestles and pitches softball. Is one of the best infielders I have ever had but I need a pitcher, and she works hard at bettering herself as a leader in and out of the classroom.

Libby Cannon – Central of Burden

Maybe not one of the most athletic girls but she will stay after and work on hitting and fielding every day. Libby puts in the time to be the best she can be. Libby is one of the true leaders we have in the school and on the field.

Allyson Orth – Bishop Carroll

Ally had an amazing sophomore season on the mound. All of the games that she pitched were against the tougher opponents, which is hard to believe based on the stats that she held last year. When she wasn’t on the mound, she played shortstop and outfield – willing to fill in anywhere to help the team.

ERA – 1.58

Record – 7-2

Earned Runs – 14

Opponents faced: Maize South, Washburn Rural, Derby, Kapaun, Olathe Northwest, Goddard, Eisenhower, Baeshor Linwood, Maize South, St. Thomas Aquinas
