Looking to obtain yet another school record, senior Allison Suander’s has big plans for her final year with Andover Central.
Saunders is a very decorated athlete with the Jaguars. She is the 300-meter hurdle record holder, Class 5A state champion in the 300-meter hurdles and runner up in high jump and 100-meter hurdles.
“Allison is the definition of a competitor. Every time that she steps onto the track, you know that
you are going to get the best effort that she has,” head coach Aren Coppoc said when asked about Saunders.
Saunders’ offseason is not like many other dedicated athletes, she does not run indoor track and field but she makes up for it with her own workout plan.
“I have a set workout schedule to train multiple times a week and I have been taking advantage of the warm weather in the winter to start doing sprint and endurance workouts,” Saunders said.
Saunders also understands she has weaknesses, but instead of just accepting them she works to change them.
“My biggest weakness has always been the start of my races, so I am hoping to work on acceleration and block starts,” Saunders said. “I have been working in collaboration with my current and future coaches to develop a plan to target my issues in my race starts. I am specifically focusing on my power coming out of the blocks with good form, which takes a lot of trial and error alongside endlessly watching videos of myself to adjust my starts.”
