Andover’s Madden Pumphrey – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Kansas Joint & Spine Specialists

Madden Pumphrey of Andover enters the new bowling season coming off of a high from last year’s successful season. Pumphrey was a second team all-league bowler for the Trojans last season.

“I haven’t prepared for the season as much as I would have liked to with football and Science Olympiad, but I bowled whenever I could over the offseason,” Pumphrey said. “I wasn’t particularly happy with my spare percentage last season, so I worked mainly on my multi-pin spares and consistency.”

A strong list of both team and individual goals has motivated Pumphrey as he steps into another year on the lanes.

“I have a few goals for the season including an 800 series, consistent high finishes, and to break the season average for Andover,” Pumphrey said. “I would also like to have a top 10 finish at state this year individually and hopefully attend state with the Andover team.”

With confidence in the roster and anticipation for competition, Pumphrey is eager for the meet schedule to begin.

“I’m excited for meets this season, especially invitationals,” Pumphrey said. “I have a good feeling about this year, and I like the team’s odds at having a winning record.”

A friendly town rival is one that Pumphrey is really looking forward to this season.

“I don’t consider myself to have any personal rivals,” Pumphrey said. “But as for the team, I’m excited to bowl against Andover Central. They have a well-rounded team, and I think that we’re going to be competitive with them.”
