Maverick Hurt, a senior at Andover High School, is ready to take his game to new heights this baseball season. As both a pitcher and utility player, Hurt’s individual goal is clear: to be named the AVCTL Pitcher of the Year. His team goal is to maintain the momentum from last season and win the league title again, continuing the strong finish from the previous year.
One of the biggest challenges Hurt and his teammates will face this season is the target they now carry after winning the league. Every team in the league will be giving their best effort against Andover. Hurt is particularly looking forward to two key matchups: Buhler and Andover Central. Last year, Andover was swept by Buhler, losing both games by a single run, and Hurt has those games circled on the calendar for redemption this season. The rival team, Andover Central, Hurt has played summer ball with several of their players
Last season, Hurt was a key player for Andover, with a 3-0 record, 2 saves, and a 1.67 ERA in 25.1 innings pitched. His versatility was on display as he appeared in 13 games, primarily serving as the team’s closer and stepping into high-pressure situations when needed. His performance earned him an Honorable Mention as Pitcher of the Year in AVCTL Division 2.
After high school, Hurt plans to attend the University of Arkansas to major in finance with a focus on real estate, hoping to one day work alongside his father in commercial real estate. Off the field, Hurt is actively involved in Stuco, Science Olympiad, Kids 4 Kids, Blue Crew, and is a candidate for Student Visionary of the Year through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
