Bishop Carroll’s Leighton Daugherty – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Old Chicago

Bishop Carroll senior Leighton Daugherty enters his final season with confidence, excitement, and championship-level goals.

“My biggest strength is being a good teammate,” Daugherty said. “Bowling is a sport where it’s very easy to overthink or get into a negative mindset. Setting a positive tone helps my bowling, but it also encourages my team to stay positive as well.”

This season, his goals reflect both individual ambition and team belief. Daugherty aims to average 200 and finish top 10 at state, while the Golden Eagles’ team goal is to win a state championship.

“We can achieve this by showing up to practice and fixing the little mistakes,” Daugherty said. “Our team will have a lot of depth this year, and I feel like our goal is achievable.”

Daugherty doesn’t plan to bowl at the next level. Instead, he is preparing to enlist in the U.S. Coast Guard with hopes of becoming a rescue swimmer, a career that matches her drive, resilience, and desire to help others.

To reach state and finish even higher this year, Daugherty believes in steady progress.

“(We just need to) take little steps toward our goal,” Daugherty said. “We’ll continually look at what we’re doing wrong and how we can fix it. And most importantly, put God at the center of everything we do.”
