Buhler’s Max Harmony – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Hutchinson Community College

By Ken Hansard

Max Harmony, a senior at Buhler High School, has built a reputation as a hardworking multi-sport athlete who embraces leadership, competition, and team culture. Representing the Crusaders in the AVCTL’s Division 3, Harmony competes in football, wrestling, and track and field, bringing dedication and determination to every season.

Harmony’s wrestling season was defined by growth, leadership, and perseverance. Finishing with a 24–12 record, he captured first place in the AVCTL, earned runner-up honors at the Beloit Regional, and placed among the Top 8 in Kansas in the 4A 157-pound division at the state tournament in Salina. His season ended in a narrow one-point loss in the blood round at state, a moment that reflected both the competitiveness of the bracket and the progress he made throughout the year. “The things I looked forward to this wrestling season were bonding with my teammates, being a leader, and working toward my goal to compete at state,” Harmony said. “As a senior I felt like I had to help out the younger teammates and push them to reach their goals.”

One of Harmony’s most memorable moments came during a dramatic comeback victory. Down two points in the third period, he fought back from the bottom position and secured a takedown with just three seconds left to win the match. “Challenges I ran into were being down late in matches and working my hardest to get quick points. That win showed me that pushing through until the final seconds matters.”

Harmony credits his offseason dedication for much of his success. “I worked on my stamina and strength the whole offseason by going to the gym and working out every day,” he said. “My takedown percentage increased from past years, and that gave me more confidence in my shots.”

Outside of wrestling, Harmony recorded 134 tackles in 4A football this year and placed third in the 4A state track and field championships in pole vault last season. With a 3.3 GPA, he has applied to Kansas State University and WSU Tech to study aviation, pursuing his dream of becoming a pilot.
