Campus’ Ava Marrs – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

By Angela Brunk

Senior Ava Marrs is making an impact at Campus High School as a dedicated multi-sport athlete in both track and field and powerlifting. She competes in shot put, discus, and javelin, while also participating in bench, squat, clean, and deadlift.

Marrs attributes her success to year-round training and consistency. From summer conditioning programs to weights and conditioning classes and zero-hour lifting sessions, she often completes multiple workouts in a single day. Her experience in basketball has also helped develop her speed and agility, contributing to her overall athletic performance.

Her hard work has led to impressive results. In 2025, Marrs placed fourth overall in her weight class at the state powerlifting meet and was the state runner-up in squat. This season, she earned first place overall in her weight class at the Derby Invitational, lifting 145 pounds more than the second-place finisher and helping her team secure first place. She also placed third overall at the Wellington Powerlifting Meet.

Marrs continues to see progress in track and field, with personal bests of 27.0 feet in shot put, 73.7 feet in discus, and 60.3 feet in javelin. She is focused on setting new personal records this season and reaching her goal of a 30-foot shot put throw.

Outside of athletics, Marrs is a three-year Student Athletic Trainer, a Student Council officer, and a member of National Honor Society and YEK. She also manages her school’s coffee shop and ranks in the top 10 percent of her class.

After graduation, Marrs plans to attend Emporia State University to study Health and Physical Education and pursue a career in athletic training.
