Last season at the state championship, Wichita Collegiate’s Karim Sandid finished first in the 200m medley relay, second in the 400m freestyle relay, third in the 100m breaststroke and fourth in the 100m freestyle.
Head coach Aidan Scott is excited to have Sandid back for his junior year.
“Karim is a great swimmer. He’s always super enthusiastic, and always shows up to the pool deck ready to work hard. His work ethic and determination are what set him apart and a lot of his success can be attributed to that,” Scott said.
Aside from competing at state again, Sandid is excited for the competition he will face this season.
“There are a lot of great swimmers with talent and I am really looking forward to racing them this season,” Sandid said.
Over the offseason Sandid did a lot of training as well as lifting to help get stronger.
“I am looking to improve my breaststroke and sprint freestyle this season. If I continue to build on my current skills, I believe I will have great success. I started my offseason training by building up my aerobic capacity in freestyle. I also did a lot of breaststroke, kick, swim, and technique. Now that I am in-season, I am working on generating power in my sprinting,” Sandid said.
