As his senior season approaches, Conway Springs’ Jase Downey is looking forward to making the most of his final year alongside the teammates he has grown with throughout his high school career.
“I am very excited to be playing with my teammates for the final time, it’s been a fun time being with them and I look forward to practices and games every day because of them,” Downey said. “I am also excited to show myself off a little bit, I have worked hard this offseason and I am looking forward to being able to put what I’ve done in the offseason onto the field.”
During the offseason, Downey stayed busy by putting in consistent work and attending multiple camps to continue developing his game.
“I have been doing plenty of workouts, I haven’t been able to work out with my trainer Clint Vancurren because of car troubles, but he has workouts set up in an app that I use to help guide me through my workouts,” Downey said. “Here lately though, I have been practicing with my summer team, coached by Ryan Jones, and he has helped me a lot.”
Even with strong statistical numbers in previous seasons, Downey believes there are still several areas where he can continue to grow.
“There are few things I want to improve on this year, the first one is being a leader, both vocally and with my actions,” Downey said. “I tend to get down on myself easily and I need to have good body language to really keep our team up. The second area is hitting. I have changed how some of my body moves when I swing so that I can do some more damage.”
