Jersey Ramirez, a senior at Derby High School, is a dedicated athlete who plays middle infield, but mostly second base. As Ramirez heads into her final season, she has set clear goals both individually and for the team. Ramirez is focused on having a successful senior year and giving her all for her teammates. For a team goal, Ramirez wants to win regionals and advance further in state than they did last year. Ramirez is particularly excited about seeing how the team will come together this season after losing some key seniors.
During the offseason, Ramirez focused on improving her skills through summer ball with her club team and training with her personal trainer in the fall. Ramirez also balanced her training with working at The Coffee House.
Last season, Ramirez had an outstanding performance, earning a .337 batting average and a .441 on-base percentage. She recorded 31 hits, 21 singles, 10 doubles, and 26 RBIs, with a .940 fielding percentage. Her hard work paid off when she earned second-team all-league honors at second base, as well as being honored on the all-metro third team. Plus, Ramirez earned an honorable mention for all-state.
Looking ahead, Ramirez plans to attend Wichita State University to major in accounting, with a minor in finance or business. Along with her athletic achievements, she is also active outside of sports, interning at a local bank and coaching the Panther Pals. The Panther Pals is the school’s special needs basketball team, which had a successful season with a 5-4 record. Ramirez’s commitment to both her academic and extracurricular activities reflect her well-rounded character and determination.
