On and off the court this season, Derby High School Volleyball players want to act
like a family. One senior, Kenadie Casanova is helping lead the team to this goal.
Other goals for the team are to encourage each other when teammates are down
and show kindness to everyone on and off the court. Casanova individually wants
to play every game to the fullest and have fun doing it.
During last season, Casanova was injured and was unable to play during the
playoffs for sub state, so playing every game to the fullest is something Casanova
is prepared to do. Not only is Casanova prepared to play but is really looking
forward to the chance to play in the postseason. Team dinners are a big part of the
season for Casanova. “I also look forward to every team dinner we have on
Thursdays. They always bring our team closer and bond us.”
Over the summer months, Casanova worked very hard to prepare for the season by
working on being consistent and more aggressive when playing. Casanova
attended a KU training camp as well. “I want to show my coach I deserve to be on
the court playing with varsity and that I worked hard for my spot”
Casanova would like to continue to play volleyball in college and study either
Athletic Training or Forensic Psychology. In addition to high school volleyball,
Casanova also plays volleyball at One Volleyball Academy. Casanova has also
participated in track and field for multiple years but has recently decided to step
away from track and field to focus more on volleyball and work.
