Weston Jackson a center from Derby High School is already thinking like a leader. A member of the Class of 2027, Jackson plays center on the offensive line and is determined to take on a larger role both on and off the field this fall. “As an upperclassman now, I want to be a greater asset to my team,” Jackson told Vype Magazine. “One of my goals is to help lead my teammates by keeping a positive attitude to help us excel as a team.”
Jackson is especially excited for Derby’s season opener against Hays, calling it a great test right out of the gate. The game will be good competition for both teams, and Derby is looking to start the season off with a win. Looking further ahead, he’s hopeful for another shot at Manhattan in the substate round.
To prepare for the upcoming season, Jackson has been working hard to improve his overall athleticism. “I’ve focused on getting faster, stronger, and just becoming a better athlete,” he said. His offseason has included team workouts and attending football camps to sharpen his skills.
Jackson’s passion for the game extends beyond his own playing time. Off the field, he gives back to the community by officiating youth sports, serving as a referee and umpire for local games.
Looking to the future, Jackson hopes to continue playing football at the college level and eventually pursue a career that keeps him close to the game. “I want to stay in sports,” he said. Hoping to share his love of sports with others, not just now, but in the future.
With leadership, work ethic, and heart, Weston Jackson is a name to watch for at Derby High School.
