Garden Plain’s Jared Flax considers himself lucky to be able to play in front of one of the most loyal fan bases in the area.
For Flax, few things compare to the atmosphere of a Friday night home game in Garden Plain.
“This season, I am most excited to get Friday night wins in front of our home crowd,” Flax said. “The Garden Plain crowd that shows up every Friday night could not be more supportive of this team and what we plan to do this season.”
That support has helped fuel a productive offseason for the Owls. Flax said the team has spent the summer preparing for the challenges ahead through a demanding workout schedule designed to improve every aspect of their game.
“The team and I have been putting in extreme amounts of work this summer to get us ready for this upcoming season,” Flax said. “We have all shown up to morning lifts and morning football workouts to help build strength, speed and stamina that will help us get to the next level.”
While physical preparation has been a major focus, Flax believes success this fall will come down to execution and discipline. He said attention to detail will be critical in Garden Plain’s offensive system.
“The GP offense is built on tough, hard-nosed men who fight for every yard they achieve,” Flax said. “We all move as one, and if one person doesn’t do their job every snap of every game, it will end up hurting us in the long run.”
Flax has set ambitious goals for himself on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he hopes to be a consistent scoring threat, while defensively he wants to make a significant impact every week.
“The goals that I have for myself are to have 3-plus touchdowns on the offensive side and multi-tackle or multi-sack games on defense in every game of the season,” Flax said.
Despite those individual aspirations, Flax said the team’s ultimate objective remains clear.
“Our team’s goal is to win the state championship,” he said. “We believe we have the right people and the right coach to take us to the mountaintop.”
