For Nick Miller, wrestling has never been something he casually participated in; it has simply been his life.
Now a senior competing at 138 pounds, Miller has built his identity around effort and pressure.
“I’ve wrestled since I was 4,” he said. “My strength is pushing pace and hand-fighting my opponents into wrestling positions.”
Heading into his senior year, Miller set high goals for himself and the team, aiming for both an individual state championship and a team title for Goddard. Those goals ultimately fell short, as he finished as both a state runner-up individually and a team runner-up.
“I have no excuses,” he said. “Losing is not acceptable in the Goddard program. As a senior and leader, I should’ve found a better way to push my teammates and myself even harder to accomplish those goals.”
That level of accountability reflects the culture he has been part of and helped uphold throughout his career.
Looking ahead, Miller plans to continue wrestling at the next level while attending Pratt Community College, where he will also pursue power line training. For him, the decision comes down to environment and effort.
“I want to be in a program that is going to push me the hardest,” he said.
Beyond wrestling, Miller credits his coaches at Goddard for shaping him into more than just an athlete.
“They’ve taught me discipline — not just how to be a good wrestler, but how to be a good human being,” he said.
