Goddard senior softball player Sariah Potter has three goals she wants to accomplish before her final season as a Lion comes to an end.
“First I want to just for fun try to break the single season record for stolen bases,” Potter said. “Secondly, I want our team to have a winning percentage over .500. Finally, my third goal was to get this team to state.”
With a young roster this season, Potter understands the importance of stepping into a leadership role for the Lions.
“I would consider my leadership on the field, my consistent fielding ability, and my roundness as a player as strengths,” Potter said. “As a young team we lack game IQ, so being able to help us with that helps us from nonsensical throwing the ball around. Being so rounded as a player let me set an example for our young team members.”
Last season, Potter hit .395 with 20 stolen bases and earned first team all-league honors as a utility player.
Now, she is focused on improving other areas of her game heading into her senior year.
“Some things I wanted to improve on was being more vocal, being more consistent in the field, and lessening my strikeouts,” Potter said. “In the offseason, I just practice with my club team and put an emphasis on those things. I forced myself to have more confidence.”
