Kapaun Mount Carmel’s Reese Christenson – Golf Poll Winner – Presented by Hutchinson Community College

After a strong freshman season that ended with a state championship and a top-10 individual finish, Kapaun Mount Carmel golfer Reese Christenson is looking to take another step forward this fall.

Christenson helped the Crusaders win the Class 5A state championship last season while placing eighth individually with a two-day score of 167. She also finished in the top 10 at every tournament, including top-three finishes at the Greater Wichita Athletic League and the regional tournament in Salina.

Now, Christenson is eager to return to competition alongside a group of teammates who helped make her first season memorable.

“What I am most excited for this upcoming golf season is playing with my incredible and supportive teammates again!” Christenson said. “We ended my freshman season on a great note and I can’t wait to achieve more goals with this team again this year.”

Christenson spent the offseason working to improve her consistency while adjusting to a new set of clubs. She also competed in Central Links and U.S. Kids tournaments throughout the summer to prepare for the high school season.

“During the offseason I got new clubs,” Christenson said. “I’ve been working on consistency and my new distances. I played in many Central Links and U.S. Kids tournaments this summer to help prepare for the fall.”

Her offseason work also produced some of the best golf of her career.

Christenson won the Wichita Area Women’s Golf Association tournament at Sim Park and recorded a personal-best round of 70, two under par, at Carey Park.

Despite those accomplishments, Christenson has identified an important part of her game she wants to continue developing: her short game.

“I would love to improve on my short game,” Christenson said. “I think it’s a very important part of your round and can help you save many strokes around and on the green.”

Christenson enters the season with both team and individual goals. After helping Kapaun capture a state championship last year, she wants the Crusaders to repeat that accomplishment.

“Goals I have this season for our team would be to win another state title again together!” Christenson said. “I think with our hard work and support we can all achieve that again.”

Individually, Christenson wants to improve on her eighth-place finish at state. Her consistent play and postseason honors provide a strong foundation heading into the new season.

Christenson earned Second Team All-State and First Team All-Metro honors last season, and she hopes to use that experience to contend for an even higher finish this fall.

“My individual goal is to place better at state this year than last year when I placed eighth,” Christenson said.

With a state championship already on her résumé and a productive offseason behind her, Christenson enters the season with confidence in both her own game and the team around her.
