Oxford has a very special player in catcher Katelyn Gillenwater. Gillenwater is a senior for the Wildcats and is ready for her last season of high school softball.

“I am most excited about getting closer with all of my teammates and just having fun together,” Gillenwater said.

Gillenwater has been doing a lot this summer to prepare for her senior year.

“I’ve done a little bit of hitting during the off season,” Gillenwater said.

Oxford’s senior also wants to focus on staying out of her head this season and play every game like it’s her last.

Gillenwater has a few big plans for herself and her team this year as well.

“An individual goal I have for this season is to not be so hard on myself and learn how to shake off my mistakes. A team goal we have is to put 110% into everything we do,” Gillenwater said.

Last year Gillenwater had a batting average of .318 and made honorable mention all-league. This year she is extra motivated to do better.

“My motivation for this season is that this is my last year playing with the girls I’ve grown up playing with so I need to try my hardest,” Gillenwater said.

Next year Gillenwater will attend college and after that will join the Air Force.
