The Rose Hill High soccer team finished last season with an impressive 13-5-1 record, eventually succumbing to Trinity Academy in the state quarterfinals. Senior center-back Josh Grelinger is ready to once again lead a strong group of returning Rockets, and he appears to be well-qualified to do so.
As a junior last season, Josh was highly decorated, earning First-Team All-League, and Second-Team All-State. He was also named to the Wichita area All-Metro Third Team. After an off-season of hard work, he expects himself to equal or surpass those honors this year, “My goal is to keep up our winning ways that we have established to this point in the season. I have also set a goal to be named All-State, All-League, and All-Metro.”
So far, he and his teammates are on the right track. The Rockets began their season with a record of 7-1 and as a contender to win the AVCTL’s Division IV. When asked about his team, Josh replied, “This is a very strong team that can seriously dominate. We really have very few weaknesses.”
As for those weaknesses, Josh had this to say, “We sometimes struggle a bit with our defense. There do seem to be a few gaps, but these are things that can easily be fixed; they just take time. Our teamwork is strong, though, and we have a lot of skilled players. We have learned to grow and adapt to each other.”
When he is not on the pitch for Rose Hill, Josh also moonlights as the Rockets’ kicker for their football team on the gridiron. Grelinger is the epitome of the student-athlete and is a standout in the classroom, boasting a strong 3.7 G.P.A. After high school, Josh’s plans include attending Fort Hays State University to major in business and finance.
