Rylie Malget – Wichita Southeast-Volleyball Spotlight-Presented by Emprise Bank

By Ken Hansard

While most seniors have grown up with their teammates, many of them playing together for years, Rylie Malget’s experience has been slightly different. Malget is a senior at Northeast Magnet School. Since Northeast does not field sports teams, Malget competes in volleyball for the Southeast Buffaloes. However, her unique situation hasn’t stopped her from bonding with her teammates and accepting a leadership role, “We’ve been able to build strong relationships with each other, so the energy on the court this season is going to be really fun. I feel my role is to support my team and encourage them to grow with every practice. As a captain, I want to help our team reach our goals any way I can.”
Although Malget is proud of her academic pursuits at Northeast, she still relishes the opportunity to compete with the Golden Buffs, “I’m looking forward to our home games because the energy is so much fun and I love getting to play in front of our crowd. The support is amazing! I’m looking forward to the competition and challenge. I just love to play, and I’m so excited for the season to start.”

Malget has been named second team All-City and has also been named Academic All-State. She has also been recognized as an AVCA Phenom, a watch-list for All-Americans who also show strong academic traits.

Rylie’s interests range far beyond the volleyball court. She played soccer during her sophomore and junior years. At Northeast Magnet she is involved in the biomed program, where she takes classes that prepare her for the medical field. She is also a member of HOSA (an organization for future health professionals), STUCO, NHS, and Scholar’s Bowl. During this past school year Rylie qualified for the HOSA Internationals in Houston for forensic science.

Malget is the epitome of the student athlete, carrying a 4.0 GPA in the classroom with a weighted GPA of over 4.17. She scored a 26 on her ACT and truly cherishes her academic experiences, “I love learning just as much as I love volleyball, and I’m always trying to find ways to push myself in both areas.”

Rylie is taking an EMT class to hopefully become an EMT and get more experience in the medical field. After graduation, she plans to attend college and major in biology, with hopes of graduating to dental school to become a pediatric dentist. She plans to continue her volleyball career at the collegiate level but is still undecided on a school.
