Thursday’s quarterfinal state basketball schedule, scores, stats and recaps (March 13)

Class 6A girls

Derby 55, Wichita East 30 — Derby built a 44-12 lead, holding East scoreless for 11 minutes, spanning the final 3:10 of the second quarter until East’s Quinacy Galbert’s basket with 10 seconds remaining in the third. Derby’s Macayla Askew had 11 points, 13 rebounds, five steals, three blocks and three assists. Siaunna Carter scored 11 as nine of 12 Derby players scored. Aysia Fox had 10 points, eight rebounds, two blocks, and Karlie Demel and Alex Dinsmore each had seven rebounds. East’s Heylei Davis had nine rebounds, and Galbert and Anahree Smith each had six.

Olathe North 63, Olathe South 52 — Asia Lee scored 37 points, hitting 20 of 25 free throws for Olathe North. Allie Workman and Lailah Boyd each had eight rebounds, and Workman had five assists. Eve Long scored 19 points and had 11 rebounds for Olathe South, which shot 3 of 5 from the line.

Wichita Heights 60, Olathe West 57 OT — As time expired in overtime, SaMiyah Ellis hit a three-pointer to give Heights the victory. After the celebration, Ellis had to be helped off, grimacing in pain. With Heights leading 44-36 with 1:58 remaining in regulation, Olathe West’s Alexis Cooley hit two straight threes to get within two. Olathe West’s Molly Collins tied the score to send it to overtime. In overtime, Cooley put Olathe West up 54-52 with 1:05 remaining, but Heights scored five unanswered, including a three-point play by Terri Brown. Olathe West’s Jessica Borders tied the score at 57 with 6.6 seconds remaining, hitting a three. Ellis scored 12 points, Kennadi Jackson had 17 points and Kamyra Barber 12 points, 11 rebounds. Emma Sales led Olathe West with 17 points and seven rebounds, Cooley was 3 of 5 from three and had 15 points, and Borders had seven rebounds.

BV North 45, Washburn Rural 39 — BV North’s Jaliya Davis scored 26, hitting 11 of 15 shots, and finishing with 12 rebounds. Aubrey Shaw had 12 points, eight rebounds, four assists. Washburn Rural’s Maddie Vickery scored 12 points, hitting four threes, and had 16 rebounds, two blocks. Katelyn Hinck had seven assists, four steals.

Class 5A boys

Highland Park 65, Andover Central 56 — Highland Park, which is unbeaten, was led by Mikey Williams, who hit 12 of 14 — hitting 7 of 7 from three — and finished with 33 points. Isaiah Kelley scored 14, hitting 7 of 9 shots and finishing with eight rebounds. Jayden Brown was 4 of 8 from three to lead Andover Central with 17 points and five rebounds. Jace Jefferson was 4 of 6 from three and had 12 points, five rebounds. Brody DeGarmo and Brown each had four assists.

KC Piper 70, Shawnee Heights 52 — Piper’s Philip moore scored 18 points and had eight rebounds, and Isaiah Sayles scored 16 with six rebounds. Derrick Jackson had 10 points, seven assists, and John Vogel hit 3 of 4 from three. Shawnee Heights’ Jaret Sanchez scored 16 with seven rebounds, and Ontarius Emmot and Da’Quan Spotted Bear-Lee each had 10 points.

Kapaun 64, Topeka West 50 — Kapaun raced to a 22-5 first-quarter lead, led by Corbin Johnson, who hit 4 of 7 from three and 6 of 8 from the line for 22 points and 10 rebounds. Rocco Keller scored 13 and Corey Daniels 10, and owen Herlocker had seven rebounds.

Andover 76, Bonner Springs 60 — Andover’s Josh Kim was 3 of 5 from three and 8 of 11 from the floor for a team-high 24 points along with eight rebounds. Walker McClellan had 19 points and seven rebounds, and Owen Allman scored 10 with four assists. Bonner Springs’ Kelan Gruver scored 28, hitting 3 of 6 from three and 9 of 9 from the line. Jason Jones had 13 points.

Class 4A girls

Wellington 52, Andale, 40 — Andale was within 11-7 after the first quarter, but Wellington started to pull away in the third as the Crusaders outscored Andale 18-9. Wellington’s Val Norwood scored 13, Britt Zeka had 11 points and five rebounds. Andale was led by Maddie Lies, who had 10 points, eight rebounds, and Edyn Stolz had eight rebounds.

Buhler 56, Labette County 51 — Buhler’s Gracie Oard scored 14 points and had three steals in the win. Ella Voss had 12 points, three assists, three steals. Labette County was led by Landry O’Brien, who scored 27 points and had four steals. Jayden Davis had 11 rebounds.

Topeka Hayden 56, Clay Center 44 — Hayden had four players in double figures — Millie Ramsey (17), Hailey Schmidtlein (16), Brylee Meier (13 on three threes), Norma Greco (10). Ramsey had seven rebounds, four blocks, Schmidtlein four assists, Meier six assists, four steals, six rebounds and Greco four steals. Clay Center’s Raegann McDonald had 17 points, eight rebounds, Lily Edwards 11 points, six rebounds and five steals. Ayla Johnson had nine rebounds.

Miege 68, Eudora 35 — Miege was led by Jayla McClinton, who had 22 points and 11 rebounds. Mary Grant scored 12, and Finley Lemay had 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting from three. Kirston Verhulst had 11 points, four assists. Eudora’s Brynn Deterding had 10 points, and Avah Dye had seven rebounds.

Class 3A boys

Galena 55, KC Ward 48 — While KC Ward had a 25-20 lead at halftime Galena, took that lead in the third by scoring 13 of the period’s 17 points. Galena remains unbeaten. Galena’s Thatcher Botkin scored 16 points, hitting 3 of 4 from three, and Jackson Perry had 13 points, five assists, three steals. Linken Kimberling scored 11 points and was 3 of 4 from three. Quinten Cox had eight rebounds and Kimberling three steals. KC Ward’s Tyler Holmes scored 19 points and had nine points, four assists, six steals. Gabriel Delatorre had six rebounds.

Hesston 45, Burlington 42 — Hesston’s Reed Friesen scored 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field, including 4 of 5 from three, and had eight rebounds. Jerick Humphreys had six rebounds. Burlington’s Saige Fejfar had 18 points, 10 rebounds, and Cole Carlson had 10 points.

Silver Lake 48, Lakin 46 — Silver Lake’s Dayne Johnson had 27 points — he was 11 of 15 from the line — and eight rebounds. Teammate Aemon Coffman scored 10. Lakin’s Nicolaus Doume had 16 points, five assists.

Goodland 68, Cheney 52 — Goodland’s Brady Brumbauh scored 21 with eight rebounds, hitting 4 of 8 from three. Brayton Mull had 13 points and three threes, Zach Thorson 12 points with seven rebounds. Cheney was led by Josh Burdick, who had 18 points, three threes, five rebounds, and Quaid Thomas, who scored 15 with six rebounds. Carter Painter scored 12 with eight rebounds.

Class 2A girls

Moundridge 62, Thomas More Prep 50 — Moundridge’s Cammi Unruh scored 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 8-of-10 shooting from the line. Hallie Hecox scored 11 points and had four assists, three steals. Thomas More Prep’s Brooke Koenigsman scored 23 points and Gracyn Schippers had seven rebounds.

Inman 54, Phillipsburg 35 — Inman jumped out to a 24-10 first-quarter lead and cruised to the win with Suttyn Harris leading the way with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Kayla Jacobs scored 11 to lead Phillipsburg.

Pittsburg Colgan 41, Valley Heights 37 — Jakayla Davis scored 17 and Mariah Harris 12 in Colgan’s win.

Doniphan West 60, Chase County 44 — Doniphan West was led by Courtney Johnson (16 points), Brennah Edie (12 points), Andi Foster (11 points, 12 rebounds, four steals, five assists) and Belle Smith (10 points). Chase County’s Madelyn Wilson scored 29 points on 12-of-19 shooting and finished with 12 rebounds.

Class 1A-I boys

Olpe 57, Little River 53 — Brecken McGuire led Olpe with 24 points, and Cade Whitmore had 13 points, eight rebounds. Little River’s Logan Schubert scored 11 and had 10 rebounds

Central Plains 54, Frankfort 44 — Central Plains’ Brodie Crites hit 4 of 6 threes and had 23 points, six rebounds, five assists. Teammate Camden Stiles was 7 of 7 from the line and made three threes to finish with 16 points. Wesley Anderson scored 22 points for Frankfort, hitting 6 of 15 from three, and Tyler Smith scored 12.

South Central 52, Clifton-Clyde 38 — Jamie Gardea scored 15 to lead South Central, and Jack Herd had 12 points with 11 rebounds. Easton Hack had five assists. Clifton-Clyde’s Jack Skocny had 18 points and 13 rebounds.

South Gray 66, Quinter 47 — South Gray’s Asa Briscoe scored 23 and had seven rebounds, and Gavin Wahl had 14 points, seven rebounds. Dyson Winfrey scored 12 with 11 rebounds and Sam Moore had 11 points. Quinter’s Shea Salyers scored 12, hitting three threes, and Gunner Catura scored 11.

Class 1A-II boys

Cunningham 63, Bucklin 50 — Cunningham remains unbeaten as Luke Alberts scored 30 points and had 12 rebounds, seven steals. Nate Sterneker scored 16 points with 12 rebounds, four steals, and Will Wegerer scored 10 with five steals. Bucklin’s Kaden Tilley scored 19 points with six blocks, four assists and hitting 8 of 9 from the line. Lucas Kirk scored 14 with nine rebounds.

Elyria Christian 62, Hanover 57 — Elyria Christian’s Ty Romero scored 36 points, hitting three threes. He also had four steals, two blocks. Landon Schneider had seen rebounds, Gavin Robertson five assists. Hanover’s Braylon Meyn scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds, six steals, and Kadrick Cohorst had 10 points.

Axtell 66, Hutchinson Central Christian 46 — Axtell was led by Logan Sandman (16 points, 10 rebounds), Brandon Schmelzle (15 points, nine rebounds) and Eli Broxterman (11 points, 10 rebounds, six assists). Landon Schmitz had four assists, three steals, and Wyatt Detweiler had six assists. Hutch Central Christian’s Brody Froese had 12 points, Piercen Huff six rebounds.

Dighton 60, Lebo 40 — Boston Shimer led Dighton with 22 points on 11-of-15 shooting, and Daniel Cramer had 14 points, Payton Redburn 10. Lebo’s Zachary Oswald scored 15 points and had 15 rebounds, and Eli Ellis made four threes, finishing with 12 points.
