Valley Center’s Gavin Saner has been looking forward to his senior season all summer long. Saner was an honorable mention all-league linebacker for the team last year, and is looking to rack up the stats this season as well prove his leadership on and off the field.
“Some goals I am focused on achieving this season is first team all-league and All-State as a linebacker, as well as a team regional title and even a state championship title,” Saner said. “I am also striving to help lead the team to a league championship. Most importantly, just developing throughout the year into an even better player and teammate.”
After seeing what did and didn’t work for him last season, Saner knew exactly what he wanted to improve on over the offseason.
“I am preparing for the season by working in the weight room more, speed training and agility training,” Saner said. “Last year my weakness was speed, so I have been especially focusing on getting faster. Our team has also been having player-lead workouts together outside of our school workouts to continue to get better and become closer as teammates.”
With the season quickly approaching, Saner has been looking forward to a certain rematch, as well as meeting some other tough opponents throughout the fall.
“I am excited to play Hutch at home,” Saner said. “It was a very close game last year at Hutch, and now we get another shot at them at home. Maize south will also be a very exciting game this year for our team.”
