By Angela Brunk

Destiny Maze, a 2027 Point Guard from Wichita Heights, is making her mark on the basketball court and setting the stage for an impressive future. As Maze enters a new season, the main goal is clear: to win state and elevate the team’s performance. Maze’s ability to overcome adversity on the path to the state championship, has been a key factor in her success.

Maze’s remarkable skills, especially her shooting, are a testament to her dedication to the sport. Training three times a week, Maze continually hones her craft, becoming a more formidable player with every session. Last year, Maze’s performance on both the varsity and junior varsity teams demonstrated her all-around abilities. For varsity, Maze totaled 54 points, 28 rebounds, 19 steals, 15 assists, and 3 blocks. On JV, Maze scored an impressive 180 points, 74 rebounds, 46 steals, 38 assists, and 17 blocks.

One of her proudest accomplishments was being the only freshman to make the varsity team, a testament to her talent and work ethic. Maze’s ability to handle pressure at such a young age has set her apart as a leader on the court.

Looking ahead, Destiny plans to play college basketball and pursue a career as a veterinarian, combining her love for animals with her academic goals. Maze is also part of the AVID program, demonstrating her commitment to both academics and athletics. With a strong foundation and a bright future, Destiny Maze is a player to watch in the coming years, both on the court and beyond.
