Wichita North High junior Bryan Avalos, an offensive guard and defensive tackle for the RedHawks football team, has earned our VYPE poll winner for offense. Avalos, who was named as an All-City (GWAL) Honorable Mention candidate last season as only a sophomore, would love to collect even more hardware during his junior campaign, “I am definitely proud of the fact that I was named All-City Honorable Mention, but one of my main goals for this season is trying to make it to the First Team All-City football team.”
Another of Avalos’s primary goals is to lead the RedHawks, as a team, to a better position, “I’m really looking forward to winning a few games this season and improving our overall record. One game that I specifically look forward to is our Homecoming game.”
Avalos says that his love of the sport came at a very young age, and it happened for the same reason that many kids develop interest, “I got the love for the sport when I was a kid watching the NFL.”
The RedHawks kicked off their season Friday, September 7th with a loss to the Liberal Redskins, but Avalos feels like his team’s fortunes will improve as the RedHawks continue to gain experience, “We started this season with a loss, but I have faith my team can win games as the year progresses.”
As a junior, Avalos has plenty of time to continue to improve as a player and to map out his future. For now, he says that he would love to continue to play football after high school at the collegiate level, should the right opportunities come along.
