Wichita North’s Isabel Ceballos – Basketball Spotlight – Sponsored by Advanced Physical Therapy

By Ken Hansard

Wichita North High senior Isabel Ceballos grew up with a passion for life, a passion for singing, and a passion for the game of basketball, “I always loved being active when I was young, and when I saw my brothers playing basketball, I knew I wanted to learn the sport. After joining my first team in middle school, I never wanted to put down the ball.”  That enthusiasm and dedication has paid off in a big way, and now Isabel is in her final year as a starting guard for the RedHawks, a position she would like to parlay into playing at the next level.

But before moving on, Ceballos has a couple more things she wants to accomplish for the RedHawks, “I am looking forward to progressing and finishing out my career stronger than ever. Since this is my last high school ball season, I would like to play hard and stand out as an athlete!”

Isabel is aware that, as a senior, she has a legacy to foster, “My role is to be a great leader and a huge supporter for my teammates. I strive to lead everyone around me to success, and only wish the best for my team.”

Part of sports is learning to confront and overcome issues that always arise, and Ceballos has used that idea to help her in all walks of life, “A challenge I have run into is having confidence in myself after simple mistakes. I’m learning that mistakes will always be made and it’s better to get out of my head and push forward.  My main goal for this season is to push through the more challenging games. I would like to be remembered for my hard work ethic, my commitment to working through the tough moments,  and the skills and abilities I have earned through that dedication.”

Isabel is active year-round for the RedHawks.  She has also run cross country and track, and she sings with multiple choirs at North, including the prestigious North High Madrigals.  She is a true student-athlete as well, with a solid G.P.A of 3.2.

After graduation, Isabel plans to attend Butler County Community College on a vocal musical scholarship (and hopefully a basketball scholarship, as well).  Following that, she would like to finish her studies at Newman University where she hopes to earn a degree from their Medical Diagnostic Sonography program, with plans to someday become an ultrasound technician.
