Wichita South High sophomore guard Caylee Sallee doesn’t allow her status as an underclassman to stand in the way of her goals, “My role on the team is to lift my teammates when we are down with my determination, my hustle, and the energy I bring.” These are things one usually hears from a seasoned veteran, but Caylee is not one to wait for things to come to her.
In the off-season, Sallee worked hard on the things in her game that she saw as deficiencies. “I worked a lot on left-handed floaters. I started getting the mechanics down. From that point, I just had to work on getting more comfortable with actually using it as a weapon.”
Competitive by nature, Sallee attributes her love of sports to her mother. From there, things just grew naturally, “My love for sports comes from my mom. Over time, I grew to love and enjoy meeting and playing with new people.”
Sallee is also involved in softball, and in fact, that is where she sees her future headed, but for now, she is focused on her time on the hardwood, “I’m just looking forward to how we grow as a team, and I’m excited to see what we can accomplish.”
Aside from basketball and softball, Sallee is also a standout in the classroom. She has lettered in academics and has been on the Honor Roll in each quarter since her freshman year, which comes as no surprise, since she carries an unweighted GPA of 4.0. After high school, Caylee would like to play softball at the Division I level. She currently anticipates going into either architecture or nursing as a plan of study.
