As the golf season approaches, AndersonHelmer of Circle is excited to see new talent emerge and to compete alongside his teammates.
“This season I am excited to see all the new kids coming out and what new talent we have,” Helmer said. “The golf season is so much fun with all the bus rides to the tournaments and playing golf all day with nice weather. As a team I am really excited to see our team compete in tournaments and practice. I believe competing in practice is great for us, with drills and playing against each other on the course. Iron sharpens iron.”
During the offseason, Helmer stayed active by playing basketball and working to improve his golf skills.
“This offseason I decided to play basketball to help me stay in shape and for the love of the game,” Helmer said. “My brother is a freshman this year and it has been a blast to play with him in my final year as a high schooler. I haven’t just been playing basketball; I have for sure been working on my golf game.”
Helmer is focused on lowering his scoring average this year and building consistency both in practice and in competition.
“This season I would like to improve my scoring average on the season,” Helmer said. “Having good practice habits every day at practice. One thing I have done this offseason is trying to have a consistent schedule with my workouts and time management with school.”
As he looks toward the season, Helmer has goals for both his team and himself individually.
“As a team this season we would love to win state,” Helmer said. “The past three years we have had that goal and definitely have been where we want to be going into state. We just haven’t been able to get over the hump after the first day. I believe this year with our team chemistry we can get over that hump as a team.”
