Derby’s Carson Griffin – Swim Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

Carson Griffin just finished her junior year at Derby High School and just wrapped up her swim season for The Panthers. Griffin can swim whatever stroke is needed of her, but she mostly specializes in freestyle events, including the state meet where Griffin just swam freestyle.

To prepare for her junior year of swimming, Griffin swims year-round for a local club swim team. In addition to swimming on a club team, Griffin started powerlifting which helped with the explosiveness of starts and turns.

Before the league meet, Griffin was hoping for another league title which would be the 6th for The Panthers. Leading up to state, Griffin set a goal to qualify for state in multiple events. Before the state meet, Griffin was hoping to make finals and place at state.

Last year, Griffin was most proud of the hardware she brought home from state. “Last year, I medaled at state for the first time, which is what I was most proud of.”

Since Griffin just wrapped up her junior year, she is not completely sure of her future plans. Griffin plans to apply to Yale early this summer, but she is undecided of her career path or major at this point.

In addition to club swimming and high school swimming, Griffin also powerlifts for the school. While not in the pool, Griffin has found a passion for music as well because she plays violin, piano, and the cello. She is also involved in student council, she has been a class officer for three years, and is a member of NHS.
