With the focus on returning back to break with a new fire after a 2-3 start, senior Ismael Berry and the rest of the aces have their eyes set on making it back to state.
A point guard’s main job is to control the game and for the aces that’s exactly what they expect from Berry this year.
“I’m wanting to improve my leadership. Being that good and trustworthy teammate for my team, a coach/leader on the floor, and holding myself accountable as well,” Berry said.
With the goal to improve his leadership skills, Berry spent the summer learning who he’s playing his last year of high school basketball with.
“I mainly focused on building a good relationship with everybody and getting to know and learn from them on the court. And also leading by example with me being a senior,” Berry said.
Last year, Berry averaged 18 points per game along with four rebounds and three assists, Berry hopes to improve those stats so he can get more personal accolades.
“Individual goals I have are to earn and make all first team lists. Make All City and All State. Team goals is to get to the finish line. Make another state run,” Berry said.
This year with a couple transfers and a relatively young team, the aces will look to Berry to be their leader, or as they call him “The head of the Snake”.
“With me being a senior I have the most expectations and experience. In the offseason I was in the gym 24/7 constantly working on my craft,” Berry said.
